Standard roller shutter doors usually consist of a ‘curtain’ of hinged interlocking slats or ‘laths’ that forms the door opening when raised. The hinging allows the curtain to roll up or down as it is raised or lowered via a spring-loaded barrel that revolves, operating through bearings and a gear system.

Some types of roller door can be manufactured to be fire resistant for up to four hours and can even be linked to a fire station.
